What Women Move World does
Women Move World (WMW) transitions high-potential women aged 19-29 from dependency to economic freedom. It transforms grant recipients into participants in the economy through a properly-funded and carefully-constructed advancement system. Built on our core team’s cumulative experience in the youth development space, and a disruptive approach, the initiative operates on three levels: deep, mid, and purely online interventions.
THE SOCIETAL CHALLENGE
Millions of young South African women are unemployed, lack prospects and are losing hope. Despite South Africa’s position as Africa’s economic powerhouse, the country struggles with deep socio-economic challenges, including one of the highest Gini coefficients globally, high crime, and low economic growth. And one of the most alarming issues is the female youth unemployment rate which now touches on 50%, placing a significant burden on the system.
Government grants are a lifeline, but do not foster economic independence or productivity. Instead, young women are caught in a cycle of dependency and despair, their potential going unharnessed with zero benefits to the economy and maximum harm to them.
The Differentiators
Scale
Larger and more ambitious than other employment and economic participation ventures
Female Focus
We believe that by concentrating on (younger) women, we can have a greater effect in positively influencing society and creating a butterfly effect
Big Thinking
Our vision is that a large, bold intervention made at the right place in the right way, will spiral out to have huge socio-economic impact in South Africa and on the continent
Brand
Built as a consumer-facing brand, WMW is created to be of high appeal and high aspiration to young women, keen to participate in its programmes
